Pays d’art et d’histoire Causses et Vallée de la Dordogne
Chateau des Doyens, Carennac, a 16th-century chateau that houses the Heritage Centre.
This building was built in the 16th century by Alain de Ferrières (1529-1554) to be the home of the dean, ecclesiastical leader at the head of the Clunisian priory of Carennac. Outside you could notice the characteristics of this house of the first French Renaissance: massed plan dwellings facing the river, corner turrets, carved skylight at the roof, double-crossed windows and mullioneds, long gallery leading to the garden. This castle is now home to the Heritage Area of the Land of Art and History Causses and Dordogne Valley (free and free access).
