Because we travel down from Scotland, we need a comfortable and well-appointed campsite near Calais to recuperate before continuing our journey towards the Dordogne and you can't do better than La Bien Assise! In July 2017 we decided to stay for a whole week and just chill! We never moved save for the short walk into the village of Guines for baguettes, croissants, cheese and wine! The campsite tends to be quite busy with a lot of transient caravans and motorhomes stopping over for the night but the very attentive and friendly staff are there to welcome you when you are tired and weary to get you settled as quickly as possible! There is lots of room for everyone and we found this lovely spot with loads of space and a view southwards over the fields. Don't worry if you are not a camper because they also can offer hotel accommodation in the Auberge du Colombier. Dining can be either be take-a-way snacks or in their bar restaurant or in La Ferme Gourmande where the Chef prepares authentic regional dishes!
The grounds around the Chateau are beautiful and worthy of an early evening stroll before a lovely meal or that chilled glass of wine or local beer!

Don’t underestimate the adjacent little village of Guines with its Artesian Well bubbling up and historically forming part of its fortified past! Links with King Henry VIII?, who would have guessed!
There seems to be a patisserie on every corner and charcuteries to match! A few local bars, restaurants, grocery shops, a market square and Marie! Everything you need without ever going near a HyperMarket!
Despite it being obvious we were tourists, we felt very much at home and it was a joy to live as the locals live if only for a week!
