Le gîte de Pereyroux with private heated swimming pool
Perfectly positioned between Sarlat and Rocamadour, le gîte de Pereyroux with private heated pool is ideally placed to discover the Dordogne and Lot areas of SW France.
Le gîte de Pereyroux is set on the edge of a small village called Masclat and is within walking distance of 2 restaurant / bars which often have live music in the summer season. For the local shops, it’s a 5-minute drive to the village of St Julien de Lampon where you’ll find a butcher, baker, grocery, pharmacy and a fabulous pizza restaurant / bar.
St Julien is also where you can pick up a canoe and sail downstream for the day, exploring the stunning Dordogne river, spotting chateaux on your way, and stopping for lunch in one of the many pretty towns along the way… The river is wide and lazy in the summer, so is suitable for the whole family – we even take our dog with us!
The gîte is set within a large fully enclosed garden complete with its own private heated swimming pool and fabulous pool house. There are no near neighbours and you can feel the peace and quiet of the countryside all around you. We are dog friendly and welcome your well-behaved dogs to join you on holiday.
The pool house is equipped with a lovely day bed and coffee table, where you can relax with a book whilst keeping an eye on the family in the pool. And along with a dining table and chairs there is a handy fridge and large armoire so that you can stock up and spend the entire day down by the pool if you so wish!
As evening arrives, the pool house is lit by fairy lights, lending a more romantic air to your evening swim, aperitif or barbeque.
Inside the gîte, you’ll find a home from home, with a well-equipped kitchen/diner including full oven and hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer, as well as plenty of pots and pans should feel like cooking up a storm with the fresh local ingredients you bought at the local markets…
The salon has plenty of space and entertainment for the whole family; with 3 comfy sofas, a 50” smart TV (including British terrestrial channels), a Bluetooth speaker, as well as an old school DVD player, a good selection of films, and plenty of books and board games too.
The salon has French doors onto the rose garden, which has a dining table and chairs overlooking peaceful fields and trees, there’s always plenty of birdsong, and if you’re lucky you may spot some deer or wild boar as the sun goes down. As there is little light pollution here, the night sky is perfect for stargazing.
Adjacent to the rose garden is the private pétanque pitch (boules provided) where you and your family and friends can enjoy some pre or post dinner competitive spirit!
Le gîte de Pereyroux has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, downstairs there is a double bedroom with an en-suite wet room. Upstairs the bedrooms have lovely high ceilings, adding to the sense of space: the master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and en-suite shower room; and the two twin rooms share the main bathroom.
Around and about
This area of the Lot/ Dordogne is a joy to explore, whether by foot, bicycle or by car. The lush green rolling countryside is studded with lakes and hills, as well as many underground caves where you can wonder at the natural cave formations and early human art. There are plentiful gardens, animal parks, kids adventure forests and chateaux to visit within a 30-minute drive of the gîte.
The local tourist office websites have great selection of how to get out and about in the fresh air – you can find some helpful links on my website’s ‘what to do and see’ page.
Around 25 minutes away is the medieval town of Sarlat with its famous market sprawling around the narrow streets and alleyways every Wednesday and Saturday – as well as textiles and knick-knacks you’ll find a wealth of fresh and preserved local products, such as: confit duck, foie gras, walnut tart, walnut oil, as well as plenty of delicious local wines. There are also literally hundreds of restaurants so you’ll be spoiled for choice!
Around 30 minutes away, Domme is one of our favourite small villages to go for a stroll, set atop a high ridge, it overlooks the Dordogne as it winds its way through the landscape, offering amazing views across to multiple nearby towns and chateaux, and has a selection of lovely shops and restaurants.
One of the most visited tourist sites in France, the UNESCO world heritage site of Rocamadour is just 45 minutes away. The 12th century town with many historical monuments and churches is literally hanging off of the side of a dramatic gorge. Its narrow winding streets and succession of levels makes for a fascinating day out, there are plenty of shops and restaurants too.
Going south into the Lot department you can explore the multitude of vineyards that have grown alongside the river Lot since 50BC. There are many cycle routes around this area which makes for a lovely day out and about in the fresh air, and you can reward yourself with a bottle of the amazing local wine at the end of the day!
So, if you are looking for a relaxing holiday with a private heated swimming pool, set in a beautiful landscape where there is much to explore……
